Sharing the power of conversation.

When someone suffers from depression, suicidal thoughts, alcohol abuse, or substance abuse, on average it takes 10 years for that person to get treatment after the first symptoms appear. In that time, the issue can escalate from a manageable condition to life-altering crisis. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, isolation and uncertainty about the future have contributed to worsening of behavorial health conditions, including depression, anxiety and addiction.

The good news is that asking for help doesn’t need to be a challenging task. It can be as simple as just telling one person.

Who we are.

Just Tell One’s mission is to give Western New York youth and young adults the tools and confidence to start the conversation about their mental health or behavioral health issues such as substance abuse. By helping a young person reach out for help as early as possible, we can increase the use of intervention services and decrease the likelihood of the issue turning into an emergency.

Just Tell One is a public awareness initiative of Mental Health Advocates of WNY developed with the support of the Prevention Council of Erie County and organizations representing Niagara, Orleans, Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany Counties.

WHO IS OUR AUDIENCE?

Just Tell One is primarily focused on youth who are facing mental health or addiction issues. However, we also aim to educate those who are influencers to these young people. Examples may be a family member, teacher, coach, church leader, close friend, or anyone else that can be a trusted person to talk to.

Working with the media.

Just Tell One is committed to educating and assisting media outlets to provide accurate information and eliminate stigma of mental health and substance abuse issues.
